Saskatchewan Health Services Databases

Description

Saskatchewan Health provides health services within a publicly funded health system common to Canada. More than 1 Million residents of the province have been enrolled in the health system and systematic collection of data has been conducted since 1962. Data available from the databases, and the dates collection began for each category, include a population registry (1962), a cancer registry (1967), hospitalization information (1970), medical services data (1971), outpatient prescription drug information (1976), and vital statistics (1979). These databases are a valuable resource for drug utilization review, pharmacoepidemiology, health economic, and other health services research. Access to the databases is allowed through a proposal process that follows criteria and procedures for maintaining confidentiality of individuals and the integrity of the databases.
