NASBHC's Program in Action

NASBHC is funded to provide Capacity-Building Assistance for Promoting School Mental Health Services: State and Local Education Agencies.

  • Developing strategies to integrate school mental health with the other components of the Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP) model.

  • Synthesizing and disseminating key resources describing best practices in school mental health at the national, state, and local levels.

  • In consultation with family members, educators, school-based health providers, and mental health professionals , develop training resources on four key strategies to advance school mental health: statewide planning, social marketing, addressing quality improvement at the building level, and addressing mental health through CSHP.

  • Continuing work with the School Mental Health Capacity Building Partnership (SMH-CBP) steering committee to inform the initiative and expand national collaboration on school mental health. Partners include the Centers for school mental health at the University of Maryland, at Miami University in Ohio, and at the University of Missouri-Columbia and with the Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health of Palm Beach County, Inc.

  • Providing a pilot capacity building two-day training to one state education agency and its partners.
