Description
The Gordon Research Conference (GRC) at the heart of this application is focused on multidrug efflux pumps that contribute to the drug resistant phenotype observed in chemotherapy of cancer, bacterial and parasitic infections. The 2009 meeting builds on the success of previous conferences in 2003 and 2005 and will aim to provide:(i) A forum for discussion of drug transporters involved in multidrug efflux.(ii) Interaction of researchers working on different distinct classes of multidrug efflux pumps.(iii) Inclusion of the burgeoning structural data for multidrug efflux pumps that will be critical for understanding of mechanism and provision of therapeutic intervention in resistance.(iv) Continue the progress in understanding the catalytic mechanisms of efflux pumps and the enigma that underlies the ability to interact with a large number of drugs.(v) Facilitate Medicinal Chemistry initiatives to generate multidrug efflux pump inhibitors.(vi) Promote interaction with clinicians to initiate translational research efforts.
