S. 3668—The Traumatic Brain Injury Act of 2006

On July 17, 2006, Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Edward Kennedy (D-MA) introduced S. 3668, the Traumatic Brain Injury Act of 2006. Among the several provisions primarily aimed at CDC and HRSA are two provisions that would affect NIH. Section 3 of the bill would reauthorize the interagency program for trauma research, which includes NIH, and Section 4 would require CDC and NIH to conduct a study to determine the prevalence of traumatic brain injury, identify therapeutic interventions, and develop practice guidelines. S. 3668 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP).
