S. 2718—The Website for American Taxpayers to Check and Help Deter Out-of-control Government Spending (WATCHDOGS) Act

On May 4, 2006, Senator John Ensign (R-NV) introduced S. 2718, the Website for American Taxpayers to Check and Help Deter Out-of-control Government Spending (WATCHDOGS) Act. The bill would require ‘full disclosure’ by entities receiving Federal funds that account for greater than ten percent of their budget. It would require substantial public disclosure by grantees and contractors to be made public on a centralized website. The bill also would extend the Freedom of Information Act to include information held by grantees and contractors receiving Federal funds that account for greater than ten percent of their budget. S. 2718 currently has no co-signers and was referred to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
