Session I | Session II
S. 1926The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, to Strengthen the Animal Enterprise Protection Act
On October 27, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) introduced S. 1926, the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, to strengthen the Animal Enterprise Protection Act. Some of the provisions would broaden the protection for animal researchers and tertiary, or third-party, targets. The Offense section would now include "or any property of a person or entity having a connection to, relationship with, or transactions with the animal enterprise," and "intentionally places a person in reasonable fear of the death of, or serious bodily injury to that person, a member of the immediate family of that person, or a spouse or intimate partner of that person by a course of conduct involving threats, acts of vandalism, property damage, trespass, harassment, or intimidation;…" The Act would strengthen the legal authority for law enforcement to prosecute individuals involved in campaigns targeting animal research enterprises and tertiary targets. S. 1926 was referred to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary.
