S. 1821The Pandemic Preparedness and Response Act of 2005
On October 5, Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) introduced S. 1821, the Pandemic Preparedness and Response Act of 2005, which would amend the PHS Act with respect to preparation for an influenza pandemic, including an avian influenza pandemic. Research provisions would require the Director, NIH, in collaboration with the Director, CDC, to expand and intensify human and animal influenza research, including on vaccine development and manufacture, effectiveness of inducing heterosubtypic immunity, antigen-sparing studies, antivirals development, drug safety, alternative routes of delivery, modes of transmission, and other areas determine by the Director, NIH. S. 1821 has 12 cosponsors and was referred to the Senate HELP Committee.
