Abstract: | (CIT): Many biological systems form nanostructures that are well ordered on a microscopic but not a macroscopic scale, and are therefore difficult to examine with standard tools of structural biology. Two examples that exhibit these properties are amyloid and membrane proteins that assemble, respectively, into fibrils and biological membranes. In this presentation we review the properties of fibrils and membrane proteins and outline approaches to determining the structure of these systems with high resolution solid state magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR techniques. |
