Flash

Tox Town was created using Adobe Flash. You must have the Flash Player plug-in version 7 or above to view the site. The plug-in can be downloaded for free from Link opens new browser windowAdobe.

Tox Town uses color, graphics, sounds and animation to add interest to learning about connections between chemicals, the environment, and the public's health.

A text version of Tox Town has been created in order to allow the content to be accessible in a non-visual format.

What if I don't have the Flash Player?

Most Internet browsers already include the Flash Player. Tox Town will automatically detect whether or not you have the Flash Player and which version you have. If you do not have Flash Player version 7 or higher, Tox Town will connect you to the Adobe web site where you can click "Download now" to install the Flash Player.

Sound

Some of the locations in Tox Town also play a short sound, like a beep, meow or giggle. To turn off the sounds, click on Sound on the toolbar at the top. You can hear the sounds on a computer that has a sound card and speakers. Turn up the volume on the speakers and close any program that is already using the speakers, like Internet radio.

Location Buttons and Scene Changes

Printing

Tox Town is much more useful on the Internet than in printed format. "What is arsenic?" and the other chemical description pages can be printed. Also, each page has a link to the text version, which can be printed. Tox Town en español can also be printed.

Cut and paste

Tox Town text is an image developed with Flash software and does not support word processing. The text in the windows on the right can't be "cut and pasted" and copied to a new document. However, the text of the chemical descriptions like "What is arsenic?" can be cut and pasted, as can the text version and Tox Town en español.

Text version and accessibility

The text version of Tox Town can be selected from the home page. Tox Town conforms to the NLM standards for accessibility.
