S. 2695—The Federal Research Public Access Act of 2006

On May 2, 2006, Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) introduced S. 2695, the Federal Research Public Access Act of 2006, which would require every Federal agency with an annual extramural research budget of $100 million or more to implement a public access policy that is consistent with and advances purposes of the Federal agency. S. 2695 requires that articles resulting from Federally funded research be deposited in a public archive and made available no later than six months after publication in a peer-reviewed journal. S. 2695 was referred to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
