NIH Library Classes: August - September 2008

Learn new reference management and search techniques at classes sponsored by the NIH Library.

Classes are free, hands-on, open to NIH/HHS staff, and held in the Training Room on the lower level of the NIH Library. The Library is located near the South Entrance of Building 10.

Registration is required for all classes. Click on the links below to register.

If you are unable to attend a class, consider an individual tutorial. Sign up through the Request a Tutorial webpage.

Protocol Development: Relevant Databases, Instruments, and Services Available Through the NIH Library

Topics: Learn about information sources, search techniques, and best practices for greater efficiency and effectiveness when developing protocols. Examples of databases and tools covered include ProQolid, Health and Psychosocial Instruments (HAPI), MICROMEDEX®, PubMed®, EMBASE™, DIOGENES® Adverse Drug Events Database, and Endnote®/Reference Manager® bibliographic software.

PubMed: Understanding the Basics

Topics: Use PubMed® to search the biomedical literature in MEDLINE® by topic, author, and journal; apply language, age, and publication type limits; and identify search terms in MeSH®, the Medical Subject Headings® Database.

QUOSA: Downloading Articles and Software Overview

Topics: Search your favorite databases (PubMed®, Web of Science®, and Ovid®) and download multiple full-text articles at one time. QUOSA™ allows you to query, organize, save, share, and analyze articles and citations.

EndNote: Managing Your Search Results

Topics: Use EndNote® to import and organize references, insert references in manuscripts, and create bibliographies.
