NIH Library Classes: May - June 2008

Learn new reference management and search techniques at classes sponsored by the NIH Library.

All classes are held in the Training Room on the lower level of the NIH Library. The Library is located near the South Entrance of Building 10.

Registration is required for all classes except the EndNote/Reference Manager: Drop-In Clinic. To register, click on the links below.

If you are unable to attend a class, consider an individual tutorial. Sign up through the Request a Tutorial webpage.

Topics: Use EndNote® to import and organize references, insert references in manuscripts, and create bibliographies.

Topics: Have a question about using EndNote® or Reference Manager®? Stop by at any time between noon and 1:30 p.m. to consult with a librarian. No need to register. All questions are welcome.

Reference Manager: Managing Your Search Results

Topics: Similar to the EndNote® session, but for Reference Manager® users. Import and organize references, insert references in manuscripts, and create bibliographies.

PubMed: Understanding the Basics

Topics: Use PubMed® to search the biomedical literature in MEDLINE® by topic, author, and journal; apply language, age, and publication type limits; and identify search terms in MeSH®, the Medical Subject Headings® Database.

May 29: 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Scopus: Identifying Who's Citing Whom

Topics: Search by topic, store search requests, create email alerts, and identify which authors are being cited. Scopus™ is an interdisciplinary database that indexes thousands of journals in the social sciences, psychology, business, management, the physical sciences, engineering, the earth and environmental sciences, and the life and health sciences.

EndNote Web: Using EndNote from Anywhere

Topics: EndNote® Web is a reference management service that has many of the features of EndNote® but may be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. It is available to NIH staff through the NIH Library's subscription to the Web of Science® database.

June 19: 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Ovid: Searching PsycINFO, MEDLINE, and More

Topics: Use the OvidSP interface to conduct basic searches with medical terms or everyday language, annotate search results, refine searches with the Search Aid, and sort results. Ovid® is the search system for PsycINFO®, AGRICOLA, and Health and Psychosocial Instruments and is an alternative interface for MEDLINE®.

QUOSA: Downloading Articles and Software Overview

Topics: Search your favorite databases (PubMed®, Web of Science®, and Ovid®) and download multiple full-text articles at one time. QUOSA™ allows you to query, organize, save, share, and analyze articles and citations.

EndNote: Managing Your Search Results
