Summer 2007 Classes: Web Searching, Web of Science... and More

Take time this summer to improve your database searching and citation management skills by registering for one or several of the NIH Library’s free, hands-on resource training classes scheduled in August and September. Classes are open to all NIH/HHS staff (see the Schedule below).

Understanding the scope and learning to navigate any of the resources presented will improve your work skills, save you and your colleagues hours of time and put you in control of your desktop searching.

» Unable to find what you need on the WWW? Become a "wizard" at searching and learn to surf the Internet wisely at a special 3-hour class:

Intermediate Web Searching Techniques
Learn the inside story and skills of searching the Internet to identify the information and resources you need. Topics include: basic Internet search strategies and resources, advanced Google searching, specialized sites, Google Scholar, full text sources and more.

» Looking to target the right research information? Sharpen your online searching skills by attending the following classes on NIH Library resources:

Web of Science®
Part of the ISI Web of Knowledge platform, the Web of Science database collection allows access to Science Citation Index Expanded™ and the Social Sciences Citation Index®. Search for bibliographic information including author abstracts, cited references, times cited and related references. Biological Abstracts®, MEDLINE®, Journal Citation Reports® and other resources also are available from the ISI Web of Knowledge.

» Need to get your references organized? Master your skills in managing references and Cite While You Write™ features by learning these dynamic programs:

EndNote® or Reference Manager®
Learn to manage, organize and store online citation collections including PDFs and illustrations; format manuscripts for submission; and instantly create bibliographies. Due to high interest, these classes are offered several times throughout the summer.
