Fellowship Program Requirements and Details

Fellowships are awarded under the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Research Training Award Program and the National Institutes of Health Visiting Program.

Qualifications Applicants must have an M.D., doctoral or other equivalent degree, or be pursuing such a degree. The degree should be in a discipline related to cancer etiology or prevention research (e.g., epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, human or molecular genetics, or the biomedical, public health or behavioral sciences).
Eligibility Applicants must be U.S. citizens, resident aliens or foreign nationals with a valid training visa.
Duration of Fellowship The initial fellowship award is for two years; it may be renewed for up to three additional years.
Stipend The specific position and stipend are determined by the fellow's degree and years of relevant experience; an increase is given annually.

  • Letter describing areas of research interest, and
  • Three letters of recommendation.
