Workshop Promotes Translation of Research Findings

When: May 9, 2008, 8:00 a.m. – 4:35 p.m.
Where: Natcher Conference Center, Building 45, Main Auditorium, NIH Campus, Bethesda, Maryland
Institute: National Center for Research Resources (NCRR)

NCRR is jointly sponsoring an innovative workshop to explore collaborative ways to improve and speed research advances into clinical practice.

Accelerating the Dissemination and Translation of Clinical Research into Practice is the first in a series of workshops to discuss and share best practices and ways in which researchers can partner with community health care providers to translate clinical research into practice. Participants will develop recommendations for academic-community collaborations and partnerships with other community programs to better facilitate translating science into community-based practice. This workshop will help to identify:

  • Key enablers of successful academic-community provider partnerships;
  • Effective strategies for dissemination, diffusion, and adoption of research; and
  • Public and private-sector partners for collaborative translational research.

Keynote speakers will include NCRR Director Barbara Alving, Michigan State University Extension Director Thomas G. Coon, Virginia Commonwealth University Professor Steven H. Woolf, and DHHS Acting National Coordinator for Health IT Robert Kolodner. The Association for Prevention, Teaching, and Research is a joint sponsor of this event.
