Investigator: Leonardo Belluscio, Ph.D. Affiliation: Developmental Neural Plasticity Unit, NINDS Position Type: Postdoctoral Fellowship Labs Web Page: http://neuroscience.nih.gov/Lab.asp?Org_ID=479 Description: A post-doctoral position is available to study the development and function of neuronal circuits in the mammalian olfactory system. We use a multi-dimensional approach that combines molecular biology, transgenics, optical imaging and electrophysiology. Current projects focus on glomerular formation and plasticity in the olfactory bulb during early post-natal conditioning. In collaboration with other groups we have developed GFP based transgenic and knock-out mice with differentially labeled pre- and post-synaptic glomerular neurons. These mice allow us to record in-vivo neural activity from the olfactory bulb in response to odorant stimuli. The lab provides state-of-the-art in-vivo imaging using a new Zeiss 510-META confocal equipped with 2-photon lasers as well as intrinsic signal imaging and fMRI facilities available as needed. Other techniques used in the lab include classical molecular biology methods used for cloning genes and making DNA constructs. All Candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or MD in a related discipline. Candidates with experience in imaging or electrophysiology are particularly encouraged to apply.
