NIH Work/Life Center
The NIH Work/Life Center (WLC) was established to assist employees with their efforts to better manage their complex personal and professional lives. In creating an environment sensitive to and supportive of a healthy work/life balance, the NIH enables employees to contribute their best efforts to the mission and actively demonstrates that it values its workforce as one of its greatest assets. Both Federal and non-Federal organizations have recognized the NIH, through its work/life program, for its inclusive culture, progressive policies and programs, and active community involvement and corporate citizenship.
Services provided by the Work/Life Center are FREE and available to all NIH employees.

Work/Life at NIH
- The National Institutes of Health strives to help employees balance the demands of work and life. In addition to the wide array of Federal family-friendly policies, NIH has many service offices that also work toward improving the overall quality of work and quality of life of NIH employees.
- On-Campus Work Center - The On-Campus Work Center is a place where you can go between or after meetings or conferences to work, use a computer/printer, make a copy, use a phone, send a fax or log in to check e-mail, or send a fax. It is designed for short-term use, as needed by staff.

- The WLC provides career services that are designed to help you manage your career.
NIH Lactation Program
- At NIH, we care about the health and wellbeing of our employees. We know that returning to work after a having new baby can be difficult, especially for women who choose to breastfeed. The NIH Lactation Program services are available free of charge.
Resources & Referral Service
- *Effective January 12, 2009, the NIH Work/Life Center will no longer offer Resource and Referral Services to the NIH community. Unfortunately, due to recent budget constraints and decisions made by the Management & Budget Working group, the Office of Human Resources reduced the WLC programming resources and we were required to streamline our service offerings. We regret having to discontinue these valuable and beneficial services and thank you for your continued interest in the NIH Work/Life Center. *
