    • New, three-year mentored clinical research training program

    • Goal of endowing specialty/subspecialty fellows with fundamental skills and investigational tools necessary for successful careers in patient-oriented research

    • Tailored to physician-scientists who have already completed two-three years of specialty training in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Pathology, or Radiology or subspecialty training in either Adult or Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Nephrology, or Hematology

    • Matriculation into the NIH-Duke University Clinical Research Program that leads to the awarding of a Masters Degree in Clinical Research

    • Didactic courses in research design, data management, statistical analysis, regulatory issues, bioethics, and human subjects

    • Core curriculum that also includes invited speakers seminar series, journal clubs, grant writing workshops, scientific meetings/conferences, and other training courses

    • Individualized research project in clinical investigation

    • Protected time for clinical research with only modest clinical service responsibilities

    • Generous total compensation package of salary and benefits plus tuition, travel funds, and eligibility for education loan deferment/repayment and NIDDK Career Transition Award (K22)

    • New, state-of-the-art Clinical Center with 240 inpatient beds and Ambulatory Care Research Facility with outpatient clinics located in close proximity to NIDDK’s research laboratories, an arrangement that fosters bench-to-bedside ideas and promotes translational research
