NICHD and NIH Peer-Review Information

The NICHD Division of Scientific Review (DSR) is responsible for a broad range of functions related to the scientific/technical review of grant applications for research and training, and contract proposals for research and development activities. The DSR reviews investigator-initiated applications, such as Career Development Awards (K01, K02, K08, K23, K24, K25, K99/R00), Small Grants (R03), Training Grants (T32, T35), Conference Grants (R13) and Program Project grants (P01).

The Division also reviews grant applications and contract proposals received in response to RFAs, letters of intent (LOIs), and requests for proposals (RFPs). These grant applications and contract proposals are aimed at fostering research or training in areas of particular relevance to the mission of the Institute, including the neurosciences. To review grant applications or contract proposals, the DSR relies on several subcommittees of the NICHD Child Health and Human Development (CHHD) Initial Review Group (IRG) or, where appropriate, a Special Emphasis Panel, which is convened to provide specialized expertise in a specific area of science.

The Center for Scientific Review (CSR) is responsible for reviewing the majority of investigator-initiated grant applications (R01s, R21s) submitted to NIH. The site includes information about the peer review process, Institutional Review Boards and their study sections, rosters, policies, etc.
