Spotlight on Anil Chaturvedi

Anil ChaturvediAnil Chaturvedi joined the Infections and Immunoepidemiology Branch as a post-doctoral visiting fellow in January 2005. Prior to coming to NCI, Anil received his PhD (2004) and MPH (2002) in epidemiology from Tulane University. His dissertation focused on the molecular epidemiology of genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infections. Prior to entering the field of epidemiology, Anil received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University in India.

Since joining the Infections and Immunoepidemiology Branch, Anil has worked closely with several senior investigators on IIB's large cohort studies. The availability of excellent resources and the experience of the senior staff have helped Anil to broaden his research interests. He currently is studying the role of infections and inflammation in the etiology of upper aero-digestive tract cancers and the epidemiology of cancers among people with AIDS. With his primary mentor, Dr. Eric Engels, Anil is particularly focused on the role of chronic inflammation in the etiology of lung cancer. He is also collaborating with IIB's other senior staff, Drs. Goedert, Biggar, and Mbulaiteye. Since joining IIB, Anil has won an Intramural Research Award, the DCEG Fellowship Achievement Award, and the Fellows Award for Research Excellence (FARE).
