Who May File An EEO Complaint?
Any NIH current of former employee, applicant for employment, or anyone
with an employment relationship who believes that he or she has been
discriminated against because of:
- Race
- Sex
- Religion
- Color
- National Origin
- Age
- Physical or Mental Disability
- Reprisal
- Sexual Orientation (HHS EEO Policy on Sexual Orientation)

Aggrieved individuals are encouraged to consult IC EEO Officers before
filing precomplaints to attempt resolution of their concerns.
Time Limit for Raising Allegations of Discrimination
Allegations of discrimination must be raised no later than 45 DAYS
following:
- An alleged discriminatory act or event;
- The effective date of an alleged discriminatory personnel action;
or
- Knowledge of an alleged discriminatory action.
