Position Description
The Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications at the National Library of Medicine, a
research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services,
is recruiting for postdoctoral fellows and visiting scholars to participate in collaborative research in
Machine Learning, Information Modeling and Retrieval, Computational Linguistics and Biomedical Informatics.
Fellows and scholars will have the opportunity to develop next generation information architectures to
interpret and elucidate biomedical text and data, and improve access to biomedical information with optimal
accuracy.
Postdoctoral candidates should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in computer science, engineering, or a
related field. Applicants without a master or doctoral level computer science degree should possess exceptional
programming skills in at least one language (preferably in Perl) and have a background in information
retrieval/question-answering, machine learning, computational linguistics, biomedical informatics, and/or
Bayesian probability theory.
The salary is commensurate with research experience and education. This is a non-career excepted service
