    The NIH Police and Fire Departments are again sponsoring a toy drive for the benefit of Clinical Center patients.   • 11/12/2002: NIH Volunteers Needed for Usability Study
    The On-line Information Branch will be conducting a usability study of the NIH Online Calendar of Events. The study is scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 14; Tuesday, November 19, Thursday, November 21; and Tuesday, November 26, 2002. The study will be conducted on the NIH campus in Building 31, Room 5B58. You only will need to come one of the days. Each session will last approximately 1 hour. Participants may be compensated. Interested? Is so, please call UserWorks at 301-431-0500 and ask for Debbie Park.
  • 11/7/2002: New NIH A-76 site
    The Office of Management Assessment has launched a new website concerning the procedures for determining whether commercial activities should be performed under contract with commercial sources or in-house using Government facilities and personnel.
  • 11/4/2002: 2002 Employee Benefits Health Fair
    The Federal Employees Health Benefits annual open season begins November 11, 2002 and continues through December 9, 2002. In support of the open season, there will be a Health Fair on Thursday, November 7, 2002, from 10:00 am - 2:00. It will be held in Bldg. 1's Wilson Hall (3rd floor). Employee Express is the best way to request an open season change. During the Health Fair, we will have a live demonstration of Employee Express so users can observe and perform hands-on operations.

  • 10/31/2002: Transhare Renewal Period
    The next "Transhare Renewal Period" will begin on November 1, 2002. In order for you to receive your NIH Transhare Commuter Card for the period of November 2002 through April 2003, you must renew your participation in the program at the NIH Parking Office in Building 31, Room B3B04. In an effort to provide you with quality customer service at both the Parking Office and the Recreation and Welfare Association, a staggered renewal plan will be in effect. If you have any questions, please call the Employee Transportation Services Office at 496-5050.

    NIH General Parking Permits for on-campus employees whose last names begin with "U, V, W, X, Y and Z" will expire on the last day of November 2002.     The Thrift Savings Plan is having another open season from October 15 through December 31, 2002. More detailed information is provided in the Summary of the Thrift Savings Plan for Federal Employees booklet and is available in your IC personnel office.
  • 10/17/2002: NIH Business System (NBS) Town Hall Meeting
    There will be an NIH Business System (NBS) Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 8:30 a.m. until noon in the Natcher Auditorium. The multimedia communication event will include presentations and demonstrations for administrative and scientific staff to increase awareness and understanding of the NBS. Pre-registration is required by Oct. 30.
  • 10/17/2002: NIH Foil the Flu Program - 2002 Schedule
    Free Flu vaccinations will be given in the Occupational Medical Service offices in Building 10, Rm 6C306 on a schedule based on the first letter of the employee's last name. The program is for NIH employees only. Bring your NIH photo ID.
  • 10/7/2002: NIH Depression Screening Day

    On Friday, Oct. 4, NIH director Dr. Elias Zerhouni will host his first NIH Town Hall Meeting in Masur Auditorium, Bldg. 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. All NIH employees are invited to attend.   • 9/10/2002: NIH September 11 Observance
    All NIH employees are encouraged to join together at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, in front of Building 1 (the Shannon Building) for an NIH-wide moment of silence to remember those we lost on September 11, 2001. In a special tribute, a joint honor guard comprised of members of the NIHPD and the NIHFD will present the colors.     The Office of Science Education kicks off this year's free 6-week film festival "Science in the Cinema" on Thursday, July 11. Once a week, a popular film with a medical science theme is screened.     The FAES Graduate School at NIH announces the schedule of courses for the fall 2002 semester.     The ninth annual Fellows Award for Research Excellence (FARE) 2003 competition will again provide recognition for outstanding scientific research performed by intramural postdoctoral fellows.   • 4/3/2002: Take Your Child to Work Day April 25, 2002
    NIH is sponsoring an educational opportunity for children during Take Your Child to Work Day on Thursday, Apr. 25. The purpose is to introduce children to the vital public services their parents provide and to encourage children to consider careers in medical research and the many supporting career fields. With approval of supervisors, employees may bring their children, ages 8 to 15, to participate in events from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day will include hands-on labs, workshops and demonstrations.   • 3/11/2002: NLM Wednesday Night Film Series
    NLM is sponsoring a free Wednesday night film series as an offshoot of its exhibit, "The Once and Future Web." The series, which runs from April 3 to May 15, offers a mixture of popular films that explore the impact of the telegraph, computers and the Internet on our society and culture. Guest speakers, including museum curators and professors of history, law, media, and women's studies, will introduce the movie and take questions at the end.
