DEAS Interim Director Named

Mr. David Mineo has been named interim director for the Division of Extramural Activities Support (DEAS). His appointment, which runs through April 30, was announced February 12 by Dr. Norka Ruiz Bravo, NIH deputy director for extramural research. Applications for a permanent DEAS director are under review, and a selection is expected by March.

Mr. Mineo is chief grants management officer for NIDDK and was co-chair of the extramural MEO development team. He has also been serving on the NIH Transition Team that is helping to implement DEAS. As interim director, he will work with the Transition Team (headed by Mr. David Whitmer), Dr. Ruiz Bravo and her colleagues in the Office of Extramural Research, and other senior staff at NIH to select the leadership staff for DEAS and address critical implementation logistics for the new organization, which is slated to start operations in April.
