H. R. 3910 —United States Code, Amendment

On October 18, 2007, Representative Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) introduced H.R. 3910, to amend title 5, United States Code, to allow any Federal employee who has performed sufficient service to entitle such employee to the maximum annuity percentage allowable under the Civil Service Retirement System to terminate retirement deductions from pay. The bill would allow Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) covered employees who have reached the service requirement for maximum annuity (41 years 11 months of creditable service), and who continue to work, to request that further retirement contributions be stopped. Currently, CSRS covered employees must make retirement contributions through their retirement date and OPM will then refund the excess contributions made. Therefore, this bill would result in higher paychecks for CSRS employees in this category. H.R. 3910 was referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
