H.R. 2295 — The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Registry Act

On May 14, 2007, Representative Eliot Engel (D-NY) introduced H.R. 2295, the ALS Registry Act. The bill would amend the Public health Service Act to require CDC to establish an ALS Registry.  In establishing the ALS Registry, the Secretary, acting through CDC would be required, wherever possible, to identify and build upon existing public health and environmental infrastructure including the NINDS Human Genetics Resource Center DNA and Cell Line Repository.  The bill would also establish the Advisory Committee on the National ALS Registry of which NIH would be a member.  The companion measure S. 1382, was reported by the Senate HELP Committee on December 4, 2007. H.R. 2295 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

COMMITTEE ACTION

October 15, 2007 - The House Committee on Energy and Commerce reported the bill (H. Rept. 110-379), as amended.  The amended version made minor technical changes to the bill.

FLOOR ACTION

October 16, 2007 - The House passed under suspension of the rules H.R. 2295.
