H.R. 2210—The Diabetes Prevention, Access and Care Act

On May 8, 2007, Representative Diana Degette (D-CO) introduced H.R. 2210, the Diabetes Prevention, Access and Care Act. H.R. 2210 would require the Director of NIH to expand, intensify, conduct, coordinate and support research with respect to pre-diabetes and diabetes, particularly type 2, in minority populations; direct that these activities shall include research on the causes and effects of health care access disparities and racial discrimination; and require that the Director, acting through NCMHD, make grants to expand the Minority Access Research Careers (MARC) program internship and mentoring opportunities for recruitment of minorities in diabetes-focused health fields. H.R. 2210 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
