S. 1924—The Federal Firefighters Fairness Act of 2007

On August 1, 2007, Senator Thomas Carper (D-DE) introduced S. 1924, the Federal Firefighters Fairness Act of 2007. The bill would provide that, with regard to an individual Federally-employed in fire protection activities: (1) heart disease, lung disease, and specified cancers and infectious diseases shall be presumed to be proximately caused by the individual’s employment; (2) such individual’s disability or death due to such a disease shall be presumed to result from personal injury sustained while in the performance of duty; and (3) such presumptions may be rebutted by a preponderance of the evidence. S. 1924 was referred to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

June 25, 2008 - The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs ordered reported with an amendment in the nature of a substitute S. 1924.

October 1, 2008 – The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs reported, with an amendment in the nature of a substitute, S. 1924.
