S. 1873—The Improving Emergency Medical Care and Response Act of 2007

On July 25, 2007, Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) introduced S. 1873, the Improving Emergency Medical Care and Response Act of 2007, to establish demonstration programs on regionalized systems for emergency care and support emergency medicine research. Provisions of interest to NIH would require the Secretary, HHS, to support Federal programs administered by the NIH, AHRQ, HRSA, CDC, and other agencies involved in improving the emergency care system to expand and accelerate research in emergency medical care systems and emergency medicine. This would include research on the basic science of emergency medicine and on the translation of basic scientific research into improved practice. S. 1873 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP).
