H.R. 5250—The Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act of 2006

On April 27, 2006, Representative James Walsh (R-NY) introduced H.R. 5250, the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act of 2006. Among its provisions, the bill would reauthorize Section 399M(f)(3) of the Public Health Service Act regarding NIDCD’s newborn screening research programs. It would also add provisions to Section 399(b)(3) to require NIDCD to establish a postdoctoral fellowship program to foster research and development in the area of early hearing detection and intervention. The bill would also add “young children” to “infants and newborns” at relevant places in the PHS Act. H.R. 5250 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
