H.R.839—The Restore Scientific Integrity to Federal Research and Policymaking Act

On February 16, 2005, Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) introduced H.R. 839, the Restore Scientific Integrity to Federal Research and Policymaking Act. The bill would make it a prohibited personnel practice for a Federal employee to interfere politically with scientific research. The measure would also prohibit the use of “litmus tests” for the appointment of members to Federal scientific advisory committees. H.R. 839 was jointly referred to the House Committees on Government Reform and on Science.
