H.R. 4137—The Better Screening Test for Women Act

On October 25, 2005, Representative Nita Lowey (D-NY) introduced H.R. 4137, the Better Screening Test for Women Act. The bill would amend Title IV of the PHS Act to authorize the appropriation of $55 million for each of the fiscal years 2006 through 2010 to NCI to conduct and support clinical research on early detection and screening methods for breast cancer. The bill would also authorize the appropriation of $5 million to conduct and support research and data collection on the link between early detection of breast cancer and the reduction of mortality rates. H.R. 4137 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
