H.R. 3034—The Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act of 2005

On June 22, 2005, Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH) introduced H.R. 3034, the Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act of 2005. The bill would expand and coordinate research on uterine fibroids at NIH. H.R. 3034 would authorize $30 million for uterine fibroid research each year from 2006 through 2010, require the Secretary, through the CDC, to educate health care providers about uterine fibroids, and establish a public education campaign for patients. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. A companion measure, S. 1289, sponsored by Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) was re-introduced the same day. S. 1289 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP).
