H.R. 2234—The 21st Century Health Information Act

On May 10, 2005, Representative Tim Murphy (R-PA) introduced H.R. 2234, the 21st Century Health Information Act. The bill would authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to make up to 20 three-year grants to regional health information organizations for the development and implementation of regional health information technology plans. The plans would provide for the development and implementation of health information networks for a specific geographic area. Representative Murphy, along with the bill’s key cosponsor Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), is Co-Chair of the House Healthcare Caucus. H.R. 2234 has been referred to the House Committees on Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means.
