H.R. 1353—The Prenatally Diagnosed Condition Awareness Act

On March 16, 2005, Representative F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (R-WI) introduced H.R. 1353, the Prenatally Diagnosed Condition Awareness Act. The bill is intended to increase the provision of scientific information and support services to patients receiving a positive test diagnosis for Down Syndrome or other prenatally diagnosed conditions. Among other provisions, the bill would require the Secretary to “collect, synthesize, and disseminate scientific information relating to Down Syndrome or other prenatally diagnosed conditions” and to establish a clearinghouse of such information. H.R. 1353 has two cosponsors and was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
