H.R. 1245—The Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act of 2005 or Johanna’s Law

On March 10, 2005, Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) introduced H.R. 1245, the Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act of 2005 or Johanna’s Law. The bill directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to carry out a national campaign to increase the awareness and knowledge of women with respect to gynecologic cancers, which shall include: (1) maintaining a supply of written materials to provide information to the public on gynecologic cancers; and (2) developing and placing public service announcements to encourage women to discuss their risks of gynecologic cancers with their physicians. H.R. 1245 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

December 9, 2006 - The House by unanimous consent agreed to the Senate-amended version.

PRESIDENTIAL ACTION

January 12, 2007 – The president signed H.R. 1245 into law as P.L. 109-475.
