S. 2361—Training and Research in Urology Act of 2004

On April 29, 2004, Senator Mike DeWine (R-OH) introduced S. 2361, the Training and Research in Urology Act of 2004. The bill would create a new, separate urologic division at NIDDK; direct NIH, in cooperation with the urologic scientific and patient community, to develop a national urologic research plan; require establishment of a urologic diseases data system; and authorize the Secretary to establish a loan repayment program for health professionals and scientists who engage in urology research. The bill also calls for the creation of 10 new, dedicated research centers to help cultivate a larger pool of talented physicians and researchers to the field. The bill was referred to the Senate HELP Committee.
