S. 983Breast Cancer and Environment Research Act of 2003
On May 1, 2003, Senator Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) introduced S. 983, the Breast
Cancer and Environment Research Act of 2003. The legislation would establish
eight Centers of Excellence to study the potential environmental factors related
to the development of breast cancer. The authorization level for these grants
would be $30 million over 5 years. S. 983 was referred to the Senate Committee
on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. S. 983 is a companion bill to H.R. 1746
which was introduced by Representative Nita Lowey (D-NY) on April 10.
