S. 1909—Stroke Treatment and Ongoing Prevention Act of 2003

On November 20, 2003, Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) introduced S. 1909, the Stroke Treatment and Ongoing Prevention Act of 2003, a bill to amend the Public Health Service Act to provide programs for the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of stroke. Also included in the bill is a section addressing research. The Secretary of HHS is authorized to conduct studies on all phases of stroke care, patient access to currently approved and newly developed stroke prevention and treatment services, studies with respect to the effect of existing public awareness campaigns on stroke, or any other studies that the Secretary determines are necessary or useful. S. 1909 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health Education, Labor and Pensions. For similar legislation, refer to H.R. 3658.
