H.R. 35—The Family and Medical Leave Clarification Act of 2003

On January 7, 2003, Representative Judy Biggert (R-OH) introduced H.R. 35, the Family and Medical Leave Clarification Act of 2003. The bill clarifies the definition of "serious health condition," and would permit employers to require employees to request leave in blocks of time of at least four hours. The measure would also require employees to choose whether to take unpaid leave under the original FMLA or a paid absence under a collective bargaining agreement. H.R. 35 was referred to the House Committees on Education and the Workforce, Administration, and Government Reform.
