H.R. 2456—Diamond-Blackfan Anemia Research and Care Act

On June 12, 2003, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) introduced H.R. 2456, to require increased activities by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention regarding Diamond-Blackfan anemia. The bill would amend the Public Health Service Act by adding a new requirement for the Director of NIH, in coordination with NHLBI, NIDDK, and the Office of Rare Diseases, to expand and intensify research and to support a comprehensive research initiative to study, develop better treatments for, and ultimately find a cure for Diamond-Blackfan anemia. CDC would be required to maintain and expand the Diamond-Blackfan Anemia Registry. H.R. 2456 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
