Job Description
A Purchasing Agents’ work at the NIH involves handling purchasing requirements from initiation to post-award administration. The major duties of this position may include meeting with vendors, salesmen, and technical representatives of commercial firms to discuss product lines and furnish information on purchasing needs; learning from sales representatives what new items and prices have been added to their lines, what improvements have been made to their products, what improvements have been made in established items and procedures, and other information useful in evaluating the reliability and suitability of dealers; and contacting vendor representatives throughout the country for both standard commercial items and items.
