On July 17, 2006, Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Edward Kennedy (D-MA) introduced S. 3668, the Traumatic Brain Injury Act of 2006. Among the several provisions primarily aimed at CDC and HRSA are two provisions that would affect NIH. Section 3 of the bill would reauthorize the interagency program for trauma research, which includes NIH, and Section 4 would require CDC and NIH to conduct a study to determine the prevalence of traumatic brain injury, identify therapeutic interventions, and develop practice guidelines.
