S. 3529—The Mom's Opportunity to Access Health, Education, Research, and Support for Postpartum Depression Act

On June 15, 2006, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) introduced S. 3529, the Mom's Opportunity to Access Health, Education, Research, and Support for Postpartum Depression Act. S. 3529 would establish programs to provide services to families on education and screening related to postpartum depression and require increased research relating to postpartum conditions. The bill would require the NIH to work with other Federal agencies that administer Federal health programs to organize a series of national meetings to develop a research plan for postpartum depression and psychosis. S. 3529 also would require the NIH to expand and intensify research and related activities relating to postpartum depression based on the research plan. S. 3529 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
