S. 707—The Prematurity Research Expansion and Education for Mothers who Deliver Infants Early Act, or "PREEMIE Act"

On April 5, 2005, Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) introduced S. 707, the Prematurity Research Expansion and Education for Mothers who Deliver Infants Early Act, or "PREEMIE Act." A bill to reduce preterm labor and delivery and the risk of pregnancy-related deaths and complications due to pregnancy, and to reduce infant mortality caused by prematurity. S. 707 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP).

COMMITTEE/SUBCOMMITTEE ACTION

June 28, 2005 - The Senate HELP Committee (Senator Michael Enzi [R-WY], Chairman) marked up and reported favorably S. 707.

FLOOR ACTION

August 1, 2005 - The Senate passed S. 707 under unanimous consent.

December 9, 2005 - The House and Senate passed an amended version of S. 707.
