S. 579—The Children and Media Research Advancement Act

On March 9, 2005, Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) introduced the Children and Media Research Advancement Act. The bill would require NICHD to enter into a contract with the Institute of Medicine to assemble a panel of experts to review and synthesize research, and establish research priorities, regarding the impact of electronic media on child and adolescent development. Upon completion of the report, NICHD would be required to fund programs to carry out the research recommended by the IOM report. S. 579 has six cosponsors and was referred to the Senate HELP Committee.
