S. 521—The Hepatitis C Epidemic Control Prevention Act

On March 3, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) introduced S. 521, the Hepatitis C Epidemic Control Prevention Act. S. 521 directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish, promote, and support a comprehensive prevention, research, and medical management referral program for hepatitis C virus infection. The bill also would require the Director of NIH to establish a Liver Disease Research Advisory Board, which would be charged with developing a Liver Disease Research Plan. S. 521 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP).
