S. 302—The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health Improvement Act

On February 7, 2005, Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) introduced S. 302, the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health Improvement Act. Provisions would amend Section 499 of the Public Health Service Act, making minor technical corrections regarding the Foundation’s Board of Directors and other clarifying amendments. Of particular interest to NIH is a provision that would require the Director of NIH to transfer not less than $500,000 yearly to the Foundation for operating expenses. The bill has four cosponsors and was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

February 9, 2005 - The Senate HELP Committee reported favorably S. 302.

FLOOR ACTION

July 27, 2005 – The Senate passed S. 302 under a Unanimous Consent agreement.
