S. 1489—The Family Asthma Act

On July 25, Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) introduced S. 1479, the Lyme and Tick-borne Disease Prevention, Education, and Research Act of 2005. The bill would provide for the expansion of Federal efforts concerning the prevention, education, treatment, and research activities related to Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, including the establishment of a Tick-Borne Diseases Advisory Committee within the Office of the Secretary of HHS. The Secretary, acting as appropriate through the Directors of NIH, CDC, and AHRQ, the Commissioner, FDA, and other Federal agencies, would be required to coordinate all Federal programs and activities related to Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. The bill, which is reported to be the companion of H.R. 3427 discussed below, has one cosponsor and was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP).
