S. 1263The Save Biotechnology Innovative Research Act of 2005
On June 16, Senator Christopher Bond (R-MO) introduced S. 1263, the Save Biotechnology Innovative Research Act of 2005. The bill would amend the Small Business Act to establish eligibility requirements for business concerns to receive awards under the Small Business Innovation Research Program. In particular, the bill addresses ownership and control of a small business by venture capital companies. It would affect eligibility for Federal small business grants, including certain NIH grants. The bill has no cosponsors and was referred to the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. A companion bill, H.R. 2943, was introduced by Representative Sam Graves (R-MO) on the same day. H.R. 2943 has four cosponsors and was referred to the House Committees on Science and on Small Business.
